“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven” (Matthew 7:21, NRSV).

I recently had a deep conversation with one of my dear brothers in Christ. He said he did not want to be grumpy around people because he did not want them to remember him that way as their last impression. His reason was thought-provoking: we do not even know what will happen to us in just ten minutes. Since we cannot predict the near future, we should not leave a bad last impression on others. Doesn’t it make you think about how you treat others? Such a reality makes it clear that we are not in charge. Intriguingly, that unexpected conversation was related to what I was going to preach last Sunday: We were meant for eternity. How carelessly we live daily, without thinking of the eternal consequences of our words and deeds. We are often distracted by and preoccupied with pressing issues and tasks before us, so we rarely pause to ponder our eternal destiny. Yet the word of God is crystal clear that our temporal life on earth is not all there is; there is far more – eternal life. This whole thought points to the meaning and purpose of life. What makes or motivates you to get up another new day to live? What is worth living for? Do you seek to know and do the will of God your Creator? Or do you simply go through the motions, as if it were another monotonous day like the other days?

I believe that it is according to God’s mysterious providence that we have been brought here together at this particular time of our journey on earth. For what, though? Don’t you think that God our heavenly Father wants us to enjoy and celebrate each other as a family of faith in this lonely planet? Don’t you think that God wants us to fulfill His kingdom purposes as we are united under the lordship of Jesus Christ? I want us all to optimally utilize all our gifts, talents, and resources for maximum impact of our kingdom movement, as our hearts are ignited and emboldened by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. Thanks to the grace of God, we are moving forward boldly with new staff added to our revival movement. We pray for God’s mighty movement through us so that we may joyfully celebrate the harvest of salvation.

We’ve been exploring the Apostles’ Creed, the foundational statement of the Christian faith. Last Sunday, we explored eternal life, asking: Where will you spend your eternity? You can watch it Sermons | Nokesville Methodist Church – Bible Teaching in Nokesville VA. This Sunday, June 28, as we conclude the current sermon series, we will explore the marks of a true believer (Matthew 7:21, Philippians 2:12-13). I hope to see you all soon on the Lord’s day.
