Dear Nokesville church family and friends,
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1, NRSV).
Last Sunday, our church was filled with the delicious smell of turkey and fried oysters and the nice music, as our guests and volunteers visited with each other and enjoyed the fellowship. It was great to see many of our church members serving with smile and laughter, while our youth students were working and mingling with other adults to make this event successful. It was a great intergenerational activity for God’s glory. Thank you all so much for volunteering your time and energy for this special event.
This Lent, we’ve been exploring the spiritual realities of experiencing God. What Pastor Henry (the author of Experiencing God) wrote struck me: “If you or your church are not responding to God and attempting things that only He can accomplish, then you are not exercising faith.” I thought I had faith. But am I actively exercising my faith by faithfully responding to God’s call? Are we exercising our faith by boldly attempting things only God can accomplish through us? Do people around us see God at work through us? Or do they see a group of committed Christians serving God to their best capacity? People do not see anything happening that can only be explained in terms of the mighty activity of God. Why? Because we are not attempting anything that only God can do. What we often do for God’s glory does not require us to have spiritual boldness because we can accomplish our plans within our capacity and resources. Have we not been in the comfort zone for far too long, being complacent, timid, spiritually callous and unsensitized, and self-reliant? My dear Nokesville brothers and sisters, what do we sense God is calling us to do that only He can accomplish through us? We pray, “Lord, increase our faith and raise our expectations so that we may witness the supernatural and see you do the extraordinary.” Can I get an Amen?
Last Sunday, we explored the fifth reality of experiencing God: God’s invitation always leads you to a crisis of belief where you must decide. You can watch it at Nokesville Methodist Church - YouTube. This Sunday, March 29, we’ll explore the sixth reality: You must make major adjustments (Luke 9:23-25; Psalm 33:20-22). I hope to see you all soon on the Lord’s day. Remember your family matters to Jesus and us.
Your brother in Christ,
