Dear Nokesville church family and friends,
“Well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things. I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master” (Matthew 25:21, NRSV).
Last Wednesday, our youth families and volunteers went to see Phil Wickham’s concert at Eagle Bank Arena. Hundreds of Christians filled the arena. Phil and other Christian artists passionately sang praises to the Lord. My heart was so excited and energized that I even did not realize that the concert lasted for over three hours. I felt like I was in heaven as I witnessed hundreds of Christians worshipping together in joyful, fervent praises to the Lord. It was deeply moving. Special thanks to our sister Debbie for coordinating this special activity for our youth group. One biblical passage came to my mind. It was God’s word to the prophet Elijah who felt left alone in spiritual warfare, struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts. God said to him in 1 Kings 19:18, “Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.”
It has been brought to my attention that on November 3, Virginians will vote on proposed constitutional amendments on abortion and marriage passed by the Virginia General Assembly. I normally wouldn’t mention what to expect on political matters. But these issues directly touch on our moral conscience and religious belief. They try to alter the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia, going against our biblical convictions. We, Global Methodists, believe that there is the sanctity of human life (Psalm 139:13-16) and that marriage is a holy covenant between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6).
While we need to provide Christian love and care for those who struggle with these issues, we will fight on our knees with our hands lifted high, speaking the truth in love. Vote NO! I hope and pray that faithful remnants of God, who have not bowed to Baal, will stand strong in solidarity with one another as we face the cultural pressure, knowing that battle belongs to the Lord (1 Samuel 17:47).
This fall, we journey into the parables of Jesus. Last Sunday, we explored the kingdom of God as an alternative society to this world. You can watch it at Sermons | Nokesville Methodist Church – Bible Teaching in Nokesville VA. I would like to thank all our Fellowship Dinner crew for providing the delicious meals and joyous fellowship last Saturday. Special thanks to our chefs, Tony and John (and sous-chef or boss Naja). This Sunday, September 27, we will explore what God is really interested in about us (Matthew 25:14-19). I hope to see you all soon on the Lord’s day.
Your brother in Christ,
Sung Yoo
