Dear Nokesville church family and friends,

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you” (James 4:10, NRSV).

Last Sunday morning, I felt joy in the house of the Lord. Our ladies came back from their Women’s Fall Retreat and brought a great vibe of excitement that energized us as we worshipped the Lord passionately. I pray for the continued spiritual growth and well-being of our dear sisters and brothers in Christ.

To our sadness, we lost our dear sister Margarete last Friday, one of our finest co-workers in the kingdom of God. She fought the good fight, finished her race on earth, and kept her faith in the Lord. We pray for God’s comfort and peace in Ken’s heart, Martha, and their family as they grieve. We shared the news with our ladies who gathered together for the retreat last Friday. How comforting it might be to be with each other for such a time as this. How blessed we are to have one another on our life journey. I count my blessings and give thanks to the Lord who is good all the time.

Re the elevator and building expansion project, our Building Committee met last Sunday to consider the bids from the contractors. They are expected soon to come up with their recommendations for the Church Council (the leadership body of our church) to decide the best way forward. It is an exciting time to be at Nokesville. Shall we pray for God’s guidance and wisdom upon our leaders as we dare to step out of our comfort zone and move forward boldly in the power of the Lord? Let’s continue to embrace this whole God-inspired project with prayers in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

To give you a heads-up, beginning this Sunday, we’ll have a slightly different order of service. We’ll have the Passing of the Peace toward the end of the service, instead of at the beginning, for a better flow. And our children will stay a little longer with us to learn the Apostles’ Creed. We will continue to share our joys and concerns (i.e., prayer requests) at the beginning. Yet we will try to avoid collecting additional announcements, if possible, while we are encouraged to send them to our church office during the week. This is an experiment. We will continue to monitor and find more meaningful ways of worshipping God. I want to thank our leaders, especially Worship Committee Co-Chairs and Education Committee Co-Chairs, for coordinating this effort. We expect that this change will help us have a worshipful beginning to set the tone for encountering our holy God. Come and worship!

This fall, we journey into the parables of Jesus. Last Sunday, we were reminded that God our heavenly Father is much more interested in our character development than our achievement. You can watch it at Sermons | Nokesville Methodist Church – Bible Teaching in Nokesville VA. This Sunday, October 4, we will explore the question, “What’s wrong with religious people?” (Luke 18:9-14). I hope to see you all soon on the Lord’s day.

Your brother in Christ,

Sung Yoo
