Dear Nokesville church family and friends,

“Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love” (1 John 4:7-8, NRSV).

We are deeply concerned about the rapid developments in the Middle East. We pray for God’s protection over innocent citizens, especially children, women, and the elderly, who get caught in the middle of war. We pray for our service members who are on the frontlines and engage in combat. We pray for God’s comfort and strength over their families and communities. We pray for our political leaders so that they may make God-fearing, God-honoring decisions to bring peace and righteousness to the world. Lord, have mercy upon us.

On a separate note, have you recently been to our church basement? The hallway has been painted with a bright color. It looks warm and inviting. Special thanks to our Trustees, especially Tom and Craig, for coordinating the renovation. I sense that God is beginning to move in our midst; if so, we must prepare to move with trust and obedience as well. A couple of Sundays ago, when we had an altar call following the sermon, I expected to see two or three individuals coming to the front to pray. I was wrong. So many people came out to re-commit themselves to the Lord as I anointed their foreheads with oil in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I checked the recorded online service, and I was surprised that we had spent about 20 minutes on the altar call. The Holy Spirit was present among us, stirring up our hearts. Then, last Wednesday, 37 people participated in our Lenten study group gathering. About half of our regular worship attenders – not counting other individuals who use the book Experiencing God for their daily devotional time – join in this Lenten journey together. Are you sensing that God is on the move?

This Lent, we pay attention to the seven realities of experiencing God. Last Sunday, we were reminded that God untiringly pursues each one of us. You can watch it at Nokesville Methodist Church - YouTube. This Sunday, March 8, we will explore the third reality that God invites you to join Him in His work (John 14:23-24; Isaiah 55:10-11). Daylight saving time begins this weekend. Spring forward – we’ll lose one hour of sleep. I hope to see you all soon on the Lord’s day.
