Dear Nokesville church family and friends,
“I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6, NRSV).
We are in the middle of Holy Week, when we are invited to meditate on Jesus’ final journey toward the hill of Golgotha to fulfill his messianic mission as the Lamb of God and the Suffering Servant of God. The forty-day Lenten season concludes with Holy Week. This Lent, we’ve journeyed together, studying the book Experiencing God. I am excited that more than half of our regular worship attendants have participated in this study. Thankfully, many of us are now equipped with a common language and a shared vision about our lives and church movement. When I say we need to watch to see where God is at work around us and join Him, instead of attempting to come up with our own plans, I won’t need to explain it because you know what I’m talking about. Hallelujah! One of the most meaningful messages to me is that God does not expect me to fulfill His purpose to the best of my capacity, but God fulfills His purposes in His ways and on His timing through me when I am fully consecrated to Him. I hope that we’ll continue to familiarize ourselves with key insights from Experiencing God beyond Lent so that we may move forward boldly in the power of the Lord.
Here's what happens this week and on Easter at our church:
- Good Friday Service on April 3 at 7:00pm – This is a special service when we have a meaningful moment to repent of our sins and remember the passion of Jesus Christ for us.
- Easter Sunrise Service on April 5 at 6:30am at Craig & Cindy Betterly’s farm (11806 Bristow Rd, Bristow) – We gather outdoors to worship our risen Lord Jesus Christ, like the female disciples who visited the tomb on the first Easter morning.
- Easter Service at 11:00am – We will celebrate Holy Communion, followed by an Easter Egg Hunt. You are invited to decorate the living cross with any flowers you bring from your garden.
- Lenten Offering: This Lent, you are invited to fast at least one meal a week to remember and participate in the suffering of Christ and to bring your offering. Our church will match your offering to support the House of Mercy Local Food Pantry in Manassas. Please designate your Lenten offering on the memo line on a check or online giving. This Sunday will be the last day to collect it.
Last Sunday, we explored the sixth reality of experiencing God: You must make major adjustments. You can watch it at
Sermons | Nokesville Methodist Church – Bible Teaching in Nokesville VA. We will conclude the Lenten sermon series on Good Friday with the seventh reality: You come to know God by experience as you obey Him (1 John 2:3-6; Luke 6:46-49; Philippians 1:6). This Sunday, April 5, as we celebrate the joy and power of our Lord’s resurrection, we’ll explore why the resurrection matters (1 Corinthians 15:54-57; John 11:25-26). In the attachment, you’ll find the upcoming sermon schedule. I hope to see you all soon on Easter morning.
